When I got a job I thought everything would be okay. But,
I started to get scared when I couldn't pay my bills. I would pick and choose which bills to pay each month. It
didn't take long before my phone and electric were turned off. It was too dark for my kids to do their homework
and I couldn't even cook them a hot meal. I felt like a failure.
The Standing Tall program taught me how to budget. I never really knew what that meant until I started the program.
No one ever showed me how to write a check or how to use services offered at a bank. I did not really understand
how to buy the groceries that would best feed my family on my income. I wasn't stupid, I just didn't know. There
are so many simple ways to keep things in balance. The program helped me learn the tools.
I am looking for a new job.
I am confident I can do better for my kids and myself.
