My husband and I were going through a divorce while he was
in the service. After he went overseas the divorce was final and I suddenly had to leave the base and the military
housing I had called home for years.
I didn't expect to be out of my apartment so quickly. I just piled everything I owned into my car and sat and cried.
Terror struck as I realized I had no home.
I stayed with friends for a few days and they told me to call JFCS. I wasn't Jewish. They said it didn't matter.
I found an apartment close to where I found a job. Even though
I started working right away, I wouldn't have a paycheck for three weeks. JFCS paid my rent and security and the
first month's utilities. I was even given a food voucher so I could buy some basics for my apartment. As I emptied
the car of my few belongings, I looked at my new home. I realized I was going to make it.
