I was not
in good shape when I came to JFCS to make an adoption plan. I was
so sad and scared. There were problems
with my pregnancy too. Having no job and no place to live just
made me feel completely hopeless.
JFCS helped me find an affordable apartment near a bus line.
Then I lined up part time work and enrolled in school. I would be
able to start school as soon as I recovered from my pregnancy.
I also began counseling. I needed it.
Even though I was sure about my decision to place my baby,
I was still nervous. The adoption counselors were great! They worked
with me every step of the way. My opinion mattered and they listened.
I was able to look at profiles of different couples
and decided to work with a couple from New York, Sherri and
Rich. Sherri and Rich came to Jacksonville to meet me. We talked
on a regular basis. I wanted them both to be with me for the birth.
I delivered a healthy baby girl. Sherrie and Rich were thrilled.
They send pictures and updates on a regular basis. I continue
to come for counseling, but not as often. I am working part time,
attending school and looking to the future.
