The agency has been very fortunate to have donors
who are regular "contributors."
"I am a board member, who has a very specific interest in the Feed A Needy Neighbor Program. A number of years
ago when I was a new to JFCS, I was attending a committee meeting at the Cardinal Point office, I noticed that
the shelves in the emergency food pantry were bare. I left the office and returned two hours later with a trunk
load of food purchased specifically so that the food clients would have nourishing food to feed their families.
I continue to give cash so JFCS can buy what they need when they need it. I never want to see the pantry bare."
"I am a new donor who has been sending in donations
every week. I read an article about the food pantry
in the local paper. When I called to JFCS to learn more about feeding the hungry I was surprised at all the other
programs like financial assistance and services for seniors, that JFCS provides. My contributions are sent in as
"tithing" in different amounts. I am not Jewish, but I know JFCS helps everyone."
"We are a family who has given to the Feed A
Needy Neighbor Program and other programs for over 18 years.
We are so impressed that 100% of our donation goes directly to the Feed A Needy Neighbor program. We do not want
to be recognized in any way - just knowing we are making a difference is what is important to us."
Every once in a while we will receive a donation (both monetary and in-kind) from those individuals who were once clients
- who want to give back what they received from the agency when they were down on their luck. They are so appreciative
of how the agency has helped them.
"I came into the JFCS office and handed the receptionist a $50 bill. I was so appreciative of all of the help
that the agency had given me, I wanted to give back
so others would get help."
"I donated clothing to JFCS. The person who gave them to me told me to give them to somebody else.
I knew you could put them to good use."
This true story is about a gentlemen who was very
committed to Jewish causes and especially to JFCS:
A few years ago, we were very fortunate to be the recipient of a very large donation from a gentleman who was a friend of the "agency" and who felt very "linked" through the years to our staff. He lived in the San
Marco neighborhood next door to the JFCS office on LaSalle Street. He worked for the National Shirt Shops and prepared
tax returns for individuals but lived very frugally. He taught Sunday School at one of the synagogues but always
stayed in contact with the agency, even after the agency moved to a larger facility in Mandarin. All the time,
he was investing his money and saving for a "rainy day." When he passed away, he left most of his estate
to JFCS.
