Koleinujax at Jewish Family Family & Community Services and the JCA are co-sponsoring a repeat performance of the much acclaimed and award winning documentary film "Praying With Lior". This film follows the challenges and triumphs of Lior, a 12-year old boy with Down Syndrome, as he prepares for his Bar Mitzvah. We’re here for you

Whether you are facing medical issues or personal challenges within your family, experiencing the impact of the economy or feeling stressed and overwhelmed, the Department of Jewish Services (DJS) is here with support and assistance from caring professionals. We serve members of the Jewish community by providing programs and services that address physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

The Department of Jewish Services offers a wide range of services:

Senior SolutionsSENIOR SOLUTIONS:

Offers care management services for seniors with sensitivity to specialized Jewish needs. Our care managers help “bridge the gap” between seniors living in the Jacksonville area and their families, whether local or out of town, helping seniors successfully and safely live independently for as long as possible.

KOSHER KART:

A convenient and affordable meal option for seniors and anyone recuperating from illness and/or hospitalization. A variety of delicious meals that can be customized to meet specific health or dietary needs, can be delivered to your home. Sliding fee scale is available. Call 224-6287.

CALL2GO TRANSPORTATION:

DJS arranges transportation for older adults of the Jewish faith to religious services at no cost, and to medical appointments, shopping trips and recreational activities for an affordable fee. Call 224-6287.

JEWISH HEALING NETWORK (JHN):

Partnering with area synagogues and Jewish organizations, and funded in part by the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville, JHN is committed to fulfilling the mitzvah of Bikkur Cholim, visiting the sick. Following Jewish tradition, Bikkur Cholim is an expression of both responsibility and loving kindness.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:

JFCS has limited specialized funds to help Jewish individuals, families, and seniors in need, including assistance with rent, mortgage and utilities, and indigent burial services. The Winn-Dixie Emergency food pantry is also available to those in need.

CounselingCOUNSELING:

Offered to Jewish children, teens, adults, couples, families and groups struggling with emotional distress in the areas of anxiety, depression, abuse, bereavement, interpersonal problems and caregiver support.

PJ LIBRARY

Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) is honored to sponsor the PJ Library in Jacksonville, sharing books and music with young Jewish families and their children.  With generous donations from the DuBow Family Foundation and the Sam Berman Charitable Foundation, JFCS is partnering wit the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville, area dayschools and synagogues.  Our goal is to enrich, engage, and excite families about their Jewish heritage and traditions.  The Jacksonville Jewish community has approximately 15,000 residents and covers Duval, St. Johns, Nassau and Clay Counties.

KOLEINU:

OUR VOICES: A free information sharing website for parents of Jewish children with special needs Koleinu provides a forum to make inquiries about specific disabilities, available resources and a venue for caregiver support with other parents dealing with similar issues. www.koleinujax.org

MINDS IN MOTION:

A supportive on-site service provided to the teachers, staff, students and parents affiliated with religious schools in area synagogues throughout the community. A JFCS clinician provides assessment, therapeutic intervention, and referral.

INFORMATION & REFERRAL:

Professional assistance in accessing information about appropriate community services, with sensitivity to the needs of Jewish individuals.

PROFESSIONAL & COMMUNITY EDUCATION:

Jewish Services offers a large array of educational programs and topics that are available to the community: :

  • Ethical Wills
  • Do Not Cast Us Away in our Old Age: Preparing for those “Golden” Years
  • Who Will Lead the Seder, and Other Challenges of Parenting the Parent

JEWISH EDUCATIONAL LOAN FUND (JELF):

JFCS works, in partnership with JELF, for students seeking assistance by facilitating the loan application process.
