Q. Do I have to be Jewish to get help?
A: No. We celebrate diversity and the opportunities we have to help others. Our services are open to the entire community.
Q. What services do you offer?
A: Our programs provide people with the knowledge, skills and resources for healthy, independent living. Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) helps people get back on their feet by providing food, past-due rent, electricity, water and natural gas. The agency also provides mental health counseling, foster care, adoption, older adult services, case management through Achievers for Life and a variety of support groups and workshops.
Q. How many people do you help each year?
A: Over 13,000 people walk through our doors each year, seeking comfort, answers and hope.
Q. How do I get help with past-due rent and utilities?
A: Dial 2-1-1 to reach the United Way 2-1-1 centralized intake line. United Way 2-1-1 will refer you to a community agency that has funding available and will provide you with a number to call. The 2-1-1 intake line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Available agencies may have specific eligibility requirements for receiving assistance.
Q. When is the food pantry open?
A: The Winn-Dixie Food Pantry is open Tuesday and Thursday from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Bring your Picture ID. You may receive food up to three times in a twelve-month period.
