Child Safety Program
Dependency
JFCS
is contracted with Family Support Services of North Florida to
provide supervision and support to children and families involved
in the Dependency Court System (for abused and neglected children).
The JFCS Dependency Program provides services to over 500 children
in the state's custody. We supervise children not only in foster
care but placed with relatives and non-relatives. These children
face many challenges in and out of school, which affects their
ability to succeed. Over 25 case workers link these families with
services that include counseling for foster, adoptive and biological
families.
Prevention
The
JFCS
Prevention Program
works with at-risk families to help them make the changes necessary
to keep their children safe and out of the court system. Prevention
Coordinators are trained to provide in-home parenting, budgeting
and behavior modification. We get referrals from Department of
Children and Families, JSO and local schools.
Child
Safety Adoption
When children in the dependency system are unable to be reunified
with their biological parents JFCS works to place them in appropriate
adoptive homes. JFCS also works with adoptive families by linking
them to available subsidies such as day care, health care and
college tuition.
Independent
Living
Children
begin learning life management skills at age 13 in order to prepare
them for the time they are too old for foster care (aging-out).
Through these JFCS programs they learn basic skills such as budgeting,
grocery shopping and nutrition. Training continues with understanding
tenant and landlord rights, banking and savings, and smart life
choices in the adult world.
